Whever you have a a short layover or a two week vacation, Paris has something tailored for everyone’s taste that guarantee you will have an amazing time.
Using my experience as a local – I was born in Paris and came back for four years during engineering school – I’m delighted to share my insights on all the attractions Paris has to offer!
How to get there
By Car
By Subway
By Bus
By Train
By Plane – there are two main airports near Paris; Charles-de-Gaule (CDG) is the bigger international airport north of the city, and Paris-Orly (ORY) has more domestic and European flights and is located south of the city.
From CDG, the cheapest way to reach downtown Paris is to take the subway RER B directly from the train station that is attached to the airport terminal. Trains (or RER) leave for Paris about every 10 mins, and takes about 35min to reach the center (Chatelet-Les-Halles). A one way ticket for the center now cost 11.40E and can be bought at the automatic kiosks in the station. If you know you will need a return RER ticket, I’d recommend buying it with the way in to avoid waiting in line later in a Paris subway station.
The fastest way to reach the city center from CDG is by car. Taxis can be taken outside the arrival terminal and will cost between 55 and 65E depending on the final destination. The trip duration depends heavily on traffic and can take anywhere between 30min and 1h30.
